Another great win for our 1XV vs Oswestry

In the opening minutes of the game Orrell give away a penalty, which resulted in Oswestry having a line-out close to the Orrell try line. The home side won the line-out and after several pick up and drives they scored in the corner. The conversion was missed, giving them a5 points lead. Just over 5 minutes later, from an Orrell line-out, a good run by Lloyd Davies, put the home side on the defensive and good work by the Orrell forwards, recycled the ball. The ball was moved out to the backs and a good pass by John Presho, enabled winger Craig Thomas to touch down in the corner.

The conversion was missed, making the score 5pts. each. Oswestry forwards tried to use the pickup and drive close to the Orrell line but Orrell’s defence prevented them from scoring. Just over midway through the half, Orrell were reduced to 14 players, when Max Huxley was yellow carded for being off-side and Oswestry were awarded a penalty.

They opted for a scrum and moved the ball out to score their second try. The conversion was missed but the home side again had a 5pts lead. Coming up to half-time with Orrell back to full strength, they ran the ball, close to the half way line, and a long pass out by Tom Halsall, was taken by Craig Thomas, who ran 40 metres, out pacing the home side defence to score his 2nd try, close to the posts. The try was converted by Adam Worley, to give Orrell the lead 10 – 12. There was, however, just enough time in the half for the home side, again from a line-out to move the ball out, for them to score their 3rd try. The conversion was missed, but they were back in the lead 15 – 12 at the break.

Just under 10 minutes into the second half, from an Orrell scrum, they moved the ball out to the backs. Chris Owen, kicked the ball through, and Craig Thomas raced through to touch down for his hat trick 3rd try. The conversion was missed, but Orrell were back in the lead 15 – 17. 5. Minutes later, from an Oswestry kick through, Orrell ran the ball back and a good pass by Kieran Herbert out to Chris Wynne enabled him to score Orrell’s 4th try, for a bonus point. The try was converted by Adam Worley to extend Orrell’s lead to 15 – 24. With 10 minutes left in the game Orrell were again reduced to 14 players when Lloyd Davies was yellow carded. Oswestry took advantage of their extra player and in the remaining few minutes of the game, from a penalty, they tapped the ball and after several pick up and drives they scored their 4th try for a bonus point. The conversion was missed, leaving Orrell with 4 points lead at 20 -24. No further scoring took place in the final moments of the game, to give Orrell the win.

Next Saturday 30th September 2017 Orrell are at Home at St John Rigby College against local Team Aspull. Kick Off 2.30pm.
