Different rules same team spirit!

Orrell Anvils share a bond that no other team share, which gets us far in tournaments even when we play O2 touch which we are not used to as different rules apply yet we still manage to get as far as we got in Birkenhead on Saturday.

The atmosphere is outstanding when all the teams come together and socialise as that opens more opportunities to play touch.

First up today were Caldy and we quickly realised playing touch as we know it wasn't going to get us far today. But, considering the age of the team varied between 13-17, we soon got street smart and started to play some effective rugby. Our defence in particular really started to improve despite being at the end of 3-1 defeat.
The second game was tighter affair with a 2-1 loss to Birkenhead. But clearly, improvements from game one were evident in this game. Leading the team from in front in her communication was Abbie and was fully supported by Sophie Padgett as VC both Junior members of the team.

Our final run out was against Prenton, easily our most impressive performance of the day with a 1-0 win thanks to a beautiful interception from Kieron jones. It was however a fractious affair as Prenton (fielding an all male team) worked to try and interrupt Orrell's style of play. However it was a day for the youngsters who never took a step back.
A day to be proud and take stock. The future is bright and more competitions, a priority.

MVP's for the day have been voted for and awarded to
Mens MVP - Ben Wilcock
Womens MVP - Joint between India Halsall and Sophie Padgett
