NEW BRIGHTON 22 ORRELL 78

The visitors started like a whirlwind and were 14-0 up inside the first ten minutes thanks to tries from Tom Halsall and a rampaging effort from Ste Ormesher. Craig Thomas was on hand to convert both and again found his range to increase the lead to 21-0 after Halsall skirted around the cover from a pass by the outstanding Alex Gaskell.

With fifteen minutes gone, another Port Sunlight rout looked on the cards, especially when Chris Owen broke, but the home team rallied to grab back-to-back tries from Adam Pitt and Joe Silcock. The Silcock effort was brilliant as he was first sent running down the wing before chipping Owen and touching down.

Centre Gaskell was a big threat for Orrell all afternoon and eventually finished with two tries to go with three assists; he was next to the line before the plucky hosts added another try before the break from scrum-half Alan Hesketh.

A quickfire Adam Glover double tipped things back in Orrell's favour and although Silcock crossed for his second and New Brighton's fourth try, the visitors were in hungry mood as Lloyd Davies, Gaskell and brilliant second row Jack Granby all found a way through. Three more tries followed in the last ten minutes while Thomas finished with nine goals to complete a 23 point haul.

The win keeps Orrell in second place, three points clear of Eccles with two league games to go and a friendly game at Wigan to come before a massive home clash against Aspull.
