Former Orrell RUFC players recognised in Lions Celebration

There are few honours higher in rugby than to be chosen to represent the British and Irish Lions. Not only have you proven yourself to be the top of your game in your country but to stay at the top when 4 top nations pool players together and take on a giant of world rugby.

We are extremely proud that in our ranks of notable former Orrell RUFC players that have represented their country, we also have 5 players who have also pulled on the famous red Jersey.

This year the Lions have acknowledged all former test players to celebrate 130 years of the institution. Each of the inductees of Club1888 have received a specially commissioned cap.

The 5 former Orrell RUFC players to have been awarded are:

  • John Carleton #560
  • Stephen Bainbridge #589
  • Dewi Morris #653
  • Austin Healey #678
  • Dan Luger #695

As we move into the next chapter of our history we know that these shall not be the final honourable mentions the club receives; with some of our open age squad representing their county and our Orrell RUFC U15s Lions reaching the Lancashire Development Cup Final recently. The Club also is also represented on the Sale Sharks Development Player Pathway by 5 of our junior squad; not to mention our National Touch Rugby representatives ...... and there are already more talented mini and junior players looking to follow in their footsteps for years to come!!
