Many thanks to Phil Winstanley former Orrell and Sale player for speaking to Jason Robinson and asking him to sign a Lions shirt to auction to raise money for Orrell Rugby Union.

Phil was spotted at an early age when he played schoolboy rugby at Upholland High School in Wigan. His coach at the time was Orrell legend Des Seabrook, who also coached Lancashire and the North of England.

Phil broke into the Orrell first team at the age of 18 in the back row position and then moved to play at front row and within a year he was playing first team rugby for Orrell at prop. When the game turned professional Phil was invited to go to Sale by Steve Diamond and he has been there for the last six years, and has a grand total of 101 caps under his belt.
