Lancashire Cup Match report
Southport RUFC v Orrell RUFC Under 15 Lions.

Back to back cup fixtures saw Orrell Lions make the trip to a sunny Southport rugby club this morning. The boys were full of confidence following last weeks winning performance but travelled light with 16 players.

With one sub against a home side of strong numbers the challenge to the boys this week was to be flexible and expect to be played out of position.

After a sluggish start and series of mistakes from the amber and black the first quarter saw the home side retain most of the possession following a strong rucking performance, pressurising Orrell in the last 3rd of their territory. The Orrell defence held firm and never really looked troubled. The Lions slowly wiped sleep from tired eyes and responded with 3 try's in the second quarter from Kallem Rogers x 2 and Kris Gibson. The half ended 0 - 19.
With confidence building, Orrell seemed to find their mojo in the second half, recycling ball in the forwards and releasing quick ball through our talented back line. With further try's from Zac Houghton, Matty Wareing and Kallem x 2 the game was comfortably won 0 - 30*.

Every player contributed today. For much of the second half, following an injury to Jake Hattersley, the team played without any subs. That takes some doing. It's worth also mentioning that for many players this was their second game this weekend, having played yesterday - utmost respect.

Ellis Povey - a heart of a Lion in defence. One of the smallest lads on the pitch in stature but never took a step backwards all morning.

Gabe Mault - Golden boot kicking goals for fun from all over the park.
Back of the match - Zac Houghton. He played a really intelligent game at Wing and at fly half. His versatility in the back line is outstanding.

Forward of the match - Kris Gibson. With his dad as one of the coaches he knows that he has been exceptional if he picks up an award. His pack leadership, hard yards, rucking performance and handling was a joy to watch
.
Man of the match - Matty Wareing. A fantastic performance at full back and scrum half. Chosen by the coaches for his organisational skills and general communication . It takes confidence to boss the pack (and they needed it at times today?) well done Matty, great game.
