What a start to the rugby union season! Orrell played hosts to locals Wigan Rugby Union at their home ground, Upholland High School. Huge turnout of youngsters for under 7s and under 8s squads, with a fun packed morning of rugby following.

Orrells under 7s Jacob Caunce, on his debut game showing he has the enthusiasm and determination for the sport watched on by his family providing the encouragement to gain him man of the match. Super support work provided by his squad with Erin Cullen showing her consistent improvement during the few games played. Max Worthington demonstrating his passion with movement across the field and Louis Smith, backing up with passing play. Lots of games and thanks to Wigan for under 7s players showing discipline and enthusiasm throughout.

Not being sure of the weather for the start of rugby season, winter clothing appeared on many a spectator but rain held off, temperatures were pleasant and Under 8s stepped up to the plate with their first game of the season with a great display from both Orrell and Wigan. Parents, guardians and spectators watching an exciting show of running and tagging skills, providing these youngsters with the platform for the season ahead.

Luke Davies supplied Orrell with defensive tagging keeping opposition at bay, he gained a deserved man of the match for the first game. Orrell’s support team backed up in attacking play by Jack Parkinson, Zac Manir Jolley, Mason and Harrison Lloyd.

For Wigan, a new starter Finlay Cassidy showed determination in a fast running game. The local derby did not disappoint although rivals, are also good friends off the rugby field.

Camaraderie and discipline prevailed for all the kids with a super start to the sports season.
