Our new Head of Coaching Paul Wingfield took his first training session on Wednesday this week. Read what he had to say about that below and his thoughts for today's game against Oswestry.

"Training on Wednesday night at St John Rigby’s fantastic sports facility was a great success with 38 fit players turning up. Working in conjunction with Peter. Andy, Glynn and Bill through the week….. we organised a fast paced games related session that everybody seemed to enjoy. The squads mood had obviously been lifted by two great wins at the weekend and they all trained exceptionally hard.

Under fatigue they moved the ball at pace, which was very encouraging and the talk was very, very positive. There are things that we can definitely improve upon over the next few weeks and months and we’ve already put a training plan together concentration on core skills and fitness.

Saturdays games are very important for a variety of reasons and I’m sure both teams will once again give it their best shot. With the 1st XV having already played Oswestry away in the league, we know that they have a large pack and a skilful backline if we stand off and give them space. We didn’t concede a single point last weekend and the fellas defended resolutely for 80 minutes. If we can defend like that at home, then we obviously have a great chance of winning the match.

Finally I’m excited about the challenges ahead and this match will give me another opportunity to look at a few people in key positions. It will also give me the opportunity to meet a few more committee members, loyal supporters and families that attend games week in, week out."

We'll be hearing more from Paul over the coming weeks regarding his plans for the squad. Keep in touch with all things Orrell via our website www.orrellrugbyunion.com; Facebook and Twitter.
