Showcasing Our Touch Rugby Squad in their latest tournament

Some of our members and supporters may not be aware but Orrell RUFC also has a Touch Rugby Section.

The Touch Rugby Coaches recently entered a team to take part in an adult touch competition in Manchester. Nothing new there you might think until you realise that the squad taking part in the competition were all Juniors and under 18 (including several players from the U15s squad) – not just entering a competition wearing the black and amber - but also taking on 16 other adult teams from all over the UK, including many Touch International Players from all over the northern and southern hemisphere.

After 5 very close games the team won the quarter finals on a drop off - which is golden point but after every minute you must drop a player until it’s three on three or until someone scores. Sadly, the team was knocked out in the plate semi–final but only after playing some fantastic rugby and great determination and effort from each player

The club is immensely proud of the squad, not just at entering an adult competition and reaching the semi-final but also the quality rugby played and the dedication and enthusiasm the team showed in playing against adult teams. Even the competition organisers commented on the way the team had performed and played in the competition.

The junior sections are the future of this Club and we are very grateful in having such fantastic support from these youngsters; playing rugby and entering tournaments such as this one definitely shows how our future is black and amber.

Well done to the Squad – we’re one very proud club!
