The Orrell RUFC U15/U16s Lions certainly did the club proud yesterday by winning the Wallasey7s trophy in their first ever 7s tournament!
According to the coach & supporters who attended the tournament, the boys played an absolutely fantastic game of rugby in the final; tapping into inner strengths to more than match their opponents; who, by all accounts, were extremely strong!
Sadly, the Lions went down to 6 men in the second half, but this did not stop them putting in a huge effort and pressure on their opponents and after two tries, the Lions were victorious!
Orrell has a long tradition of playing 7s rugby and regularly entered the Glengarth 7s which became a popular 7s tournament from the late 60s to 1990s. Many famous teams and players entered the Glengarth Sevens. Players like David Watkins, Andy Irvine, Les Cusworth, Phil Bennett, Peter Winterbottom, Steve Smith, Fran Cotton.
Orrell, won the competition 8 times between 1971 and 1985 it’s great to see our U15/U16 Lions continuing this great tradition and definitely making the future black and amber!
