Winter rugby back with a vengeance this week with a bitterly cold and rainy day in Southport for the U15's clash between Southport and Orrell.
After a very respectful 2 minute silence for Remembrance Sunday, a late kick off meant the lads needed to dig deep to keep warm, and the first breakthrough came with a strategic kick from Mason deep into Orrell's 22, setting up Justin for a try, establishing an early lead of 0-5.
The cold weather was telling though and Orrell made hard work of their second try but continued their dominance as Justin secured another in the corner, brilliantly converted by Joe, extending their lead to 0-12 at halftime.
The second half showcased Orrell's prowess further, with Seb's powerful run from the halfway line resulting in another try under the sticks, superbly converted by Joe, making it 0-19.
Cody's impressive pick-up from the scrum, a swift exchange with Harrison, and a subsequent try further widened the gap.
Southport played well, and were particularly good at stealing the ball from the ruck, so their first points felt a long time coming, they fought back valiantly and finally earned a well-deserved try from a lineout, bringing the score to 5-24.
Orrell's second-half performance displayed improved rucking and stellar defence, showcasing the essence of good rugby.
Man of the Match was Joe for his great play, precise kicking, effective communication, and overall organisational skills, contributing to Orrell's victory.
