ORRELL RUFC: A MUCH LOVED FAMILY ORIENTATED CLUB, WITH A LONG AND DISTINGUISHED HISTORY

The Club has provided numerous players for Lancashire, including Bill Lyon our current President and Des Seabrook who captained and coached Lancashire and who famously coached the North of England to victory over the All Blacks and more recently players like team captain Dan Huxley, Tom Campbell (Ealing Trailfinders) and Tom Lee (Preston Grasshoppers). The Club also produced a line out of England players, such as John Carleton, Nigel Heslop, Dewi Morris and Austin Healey. Both John and Dewi not only played for England but achieved the ultimate accolade of playing for the British Lions. With 7 current players on the Sale Sharks DPP, we have high hopes of even more ………

But even with that varied and turbulent past (none more so than the recent Covid-19 pandemic when, like so many other sporting organisations the Club struggled to back on its feet, the Club is looking forward to celebrating Centenary in 2027 - thanks to the continued support of our players, sponsors and supporters, we are working our way back to our pre-pandemic plans of growing and enhancing our Club.

The future of any club will always be its Mini and Junior Section and Orrell RUFC is no different. The club has an ever-growing and successful Mini and Junior Section, which has over 100 boys and girls playing in teams raging from U7s to U15s. The team also field several players in the Sale Sharks DPP programme and for the first time, in a long time, will be fielding a Senior U18s Colts team.

Our club sponsors and long-term friends of Orrell all contribute to the growth and development of our club. We have a growing army of supporters, people who just want to help by sponsoring our match day ball or match referee, our programme sponsors or those who just turn up each Saturday to watch some great rugby. Not forgetting, of course, our long-standing members and committee members plus our legion of volunteers, who make this club what it is today and what it will be in the future.
