10. The Project in Brief

THE PROJECT IN BRIEF

Overview
Two new rugby pitches and a cricket pitch are planned alongside a clubhouse/pavilion, practice area and car parking. Modern design techniques will encourage participation and the facility’s proximity to Winstanley College will act as a sporting hub on their doorstep.

Demand and Support

  • There is a combined membership of over 500 people.
  • There is a population of over 48,000 within a two- mile radius of Orrell, Billinge, Winstanley and Pemberton.
  • Proposals have received positive support from the local authority, local MPS, the RFU and ECB and many local user groups.
  • The steering group made up of representatives from both clubs is supported by NPS Group (Wigan)

"Sport occupies a unique place in Wigan's history and culture. Orrell RUFC and Winstanley Cricket Club are two clubs with a proud history and exciting future. That's why I am passionate in supporting and helping them realise their 'Field of Dreams' and the opportunities this will provide for our young people."
