In Memory of Steve Huxley – A Tribute

Tracy Monckton25 Nov - 10:20

With tributes pouring in for Steve Huxley, we share this tribute from a friend & team mate, which captures him perfectly

Over the past week, tributes have continued to pour in for our friend and former player, Steve Huxley, whose passing has deeply touched so many across the Orrell RUFC community.

Among the messages shared, one of Steve’s teammates & friend, Steven Ormesher, has written a beautiful and heartfelt poem in his memory — a reflection of the character, humour, and kindness that made Steve such a special part of our Club.

We wanted to take a moment to honour Steve through these words and give our rugby family the opportunity to pause, remember, and reflect.

Remembering a Titan

We remember a titan,
A rugby player, father, and friend—
A steady hand, an open heart,
An imparter of knowledge without end.

Protector of younger players,
He stood firm when storms would rise;
And those he guarded grew in time
To wear his strength within their lives.

Black and amber was his banner,
Shared proudly with his brother near;
On the field they forged their legends,
In the clash, the mud, the cheer.

A provider of laughs and japes,
On tour or on a lively stag;
He carried joy like a flask of warmth,
Never letting spirits lag.

Always there for a quiet chat,
To listen, guide, or just be still;
A man who made the weight of life
A little lighter with his will.

A hero to a generation,
Not by fame, nor roar, nor might—
But by the simple, timeless power
Of choosing every day to do what’s right.

So we remember a titan,
In stories, laughter, and the game;
His legacy lives in those he touched,
And in the hearts that speak his name.

Our thoughts remain with Steve’s family, friends, and everyone who knew him.
