It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of a much-loved former 1XV player, lifelong supporter, and dear friend of Orrell RUFC - Steve Huxley.

Though his playing days eventually came to an end, his commitment to the Club never did. He remained a constant presence—steadfast, generous, and unwavering in his loyalty. Week after week, season after season, he was there. Long before most of us arrived on a Saturday morning, he’d already be at the pitch, helping to set up, lending a hand with match-day organisation, and quietly doing the jobs that keep a community club alive. He never asked for recognition, never sought the spotlight. He simply got on with it—an unsung hero in the truest sense.

His love for Orrell RUFC ran deep. He carried the Club in his heart, championed it in every conversation, and supported it through every high and low. His presence brought warmth, humour, and a sense of continuity that stretched across generations of players, volunteers, and supporters.

We will remember him not only for the player he once was, but for the man he chose to be every day after: loyal, kind, dependable, and endlessly supportive of the Club he loved.

On behalf of everyone at Orrell RUFC, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. He will be missed far more than words can express—but his legacy, woven into the fabric of this Club, will endure.

Rest in peace, and thank you for everything.
