It is with great sadness that Orrell RUFC has learned of the passing of Michael John Glynn, affectionately known to all as Mickey.

Mickey joined Orrell around 1979 as an Under-15 player and remained a loyal supporter of the club throughout his entire rugby career. He progressed through the ranks to represent the 1st XV and played for many of the club’s sides from the 1980s through to the 2000s.

A formidable second row forward, Mickey played with immense passion and commitment during an era when Orrell was blessed with exceptional strength in that position. His achievements on the field included representing Lancashire Colts, where he helped secure the County Championship, while also winning both the Lancashire Colts Cup and the Senior Lancashire Cup with Orrell.

While Mickey's accomplishments as a player were significant, he will be remembered just as fondly for the person he was away from the pitch. A true club man, he embraced the social side of Orrell as wholeheartedly as he did the rugby, forming friendships that lasted a lifetime. His warmth, humour and loyalty made him a popular and respected figure throughout the club.

Mickey was a lovely man whose presence enriched Orrell RUFC for many years. He will be greatly missed by teammates, friends and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

The thoughts and deepest condolences of everyone at Orrell RUFC are with Mickey’s family and friends at this difficult time.
