Orrell RUFC is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Gerry Ainscough Senior, a much-loved member of our club community.
Gerry first became part of the Orrell family when his son, Gerry Junior, joined the U14s. From that moment, he was a constant presence — on touchlines, at matches, and in the clubhouse — offering his encouragement, good humour, and unwavering support.
Taking on a team manager–type role, Gerry supported teams all the way through the age groups to the 1st XV, helping in countless ways both on and off the field. His dedication spanned the entirety of his son’s playing career, and his friendly face became a familiar and welcome sight to players, parents, and supporters alike.
He will be remembered not only for his commitment to following Orrell RUFC, but for the warmth, kindness, and camaraderie he brought with him wherever he went.
Gerry will be laid to rest at St Cuthbert's RC Church, Pemberton, Wigan on 4th September at 10.30am. Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with Gerry’s family and friends at this sad time.
