Mini & Junior Rugby – Results Round-Up
Sunday was another strong day for our Mini & Junior section, with teams once again pulling on the black and amber with pride.

  • U16s recorded an excellent win on Sunday 25 February: Orrell 55 – Bowden 5, producing a strong all-round team performance.
  • Our U14s enjoyed a fantastic game, full of teamwork and commitment. The full match report and photos are on the website. U14s Match Report
  • The U13s also delivered a strong performance in a competitive and enjoyable fixture, continuing their positive development this season winning their match
  • There was also some great news from our U10s this weekend when they had their first win against Rossendale RUFC U10s (who beat us in December). Orrell RUFC U10s scoring 6 tries to Rossendale’s’ 3. This wasn’t just a great big confidence booster for the team but also shows how far they’ve come with their training, skills and teamwork. Well done to all the players and well done to the coaches and mums and dads who have supported this little team from the beginning. #proudclub! U10s Match Day Album

Across all age groups, there was plenty of teamwork, sportsmanship and quality rugby on show and we are a very #proudclub.

Community Rugby – Lancashire Champions
There was further good news for rugby in the local community this week as Orrell St Peter’s were crowned Lancashire Under-12s Rugby Union Champions, making history in the process.

As reported by Wigan Today, the Year 7s enjoyed a remarkable afternoon, overcoming Kirkham Grammar, Manchester Grammar, AKS Lytham and Lancaster Grammar to lift the Lancashire Schools’ Cup — a competition traditionally dominated by established rugby union schools.

It was particularly pleasing to see that several players involved also pull on the black and amber with Orrell RUFC U13s, reflecting the strong connection between school rugby and club rugby in the area.

Congratulations to all players, coaches and staff involved in a fantastic achievement. Successes like this reflect the strength of rugby in the Orrell area and the pathway that continues to support young players as they develop their game.

Representative Honours – National Selection
Further good news for the wider Orrell rugby community this week comes from the representative game, with Ralph, one of our Orrell RUFC U16s players, who has been selected for the National Rugby Sevens squad.

Ralph is currently training with the national group in Warwickshire as preparations continue for the Lisbon International Sevens Tournament in the coming weeks. Selection at this level is a significant achievement and a reflection of the hard work, commitment and support that helps young players progress through the game.

Everyone at Orrell RUFC sends their congratulations and best wishes to Ralph and the rest of the team as they prepare for the tournament.

Training and Getting Involved
Training continues every Wednesday evening at St John Rigby College, with Minis and Juniors starting from 6.00pm and Open Age from 6.45pm

Weeks like this are a reminder that rugby at Orrell is about more than just the next fixture. From Minis taking their first steps in the game to dads and lads sharing the pitch together, the club continues to be built on family, legacy and the black and amber.

Whether you are bringing your son along for the first time, returning to rugby yourself, or simply looking to be part of a welcoming club, new and returning players are always welcome to join the Orrell RUFC rugby family.
