What a great day for the club on Saturday as we turned out 3 open age teams for the 3rd time this season.

• 1xv Vs Hoylake 15-21 WIN!
• 2xv Vs Tarleton 2xv 0-34 WIN!!
• 3xv Vs Bolton 3xv 12-40 WIN!!!

A total of 54 players pulled on the black and amber and each one of them gave 100% and came back with 3 wins. Back to the Wirral for Orrell 1xv team: ‘Orrell’ come from behind to win 15-21 away to league leaders Hoylake. Orrell now go top by 2 points; you can read the full match report on our website: Orrell 1XV Match Day Report

There are also some great highlights from the 1XV game vs Garstang are on our YouTube Channel. You can watch the highlights by clicking on the photograph at the top of the page.

This weekend also saw our Ladies team take the field on Sunday, under the guidance of John Foster from the RFU and our U13s had an amazing game on Sunday morning vs Southport in their first ever game at the Dr1ve Medicals Arena at St John Rigby College – and they didn’t disappoint. “What a game this morning at St John Rigby for @OrrellRUFC U13s.. wet, muddy and old school!! Scored some great tries. #GoForward #Support #CreativeAttacking” tweeted Director of Rugby, Paul Wingfield.

The U14s also played their first game at the Dr1Ve Medicals Arena at St John Rigby College on Sunday morning and whilst they didn’t win the match, they didn’t disappoint either in terms of resilience, determination and sheer bravery against an excellent Littleborough side. Orrell fought bravely against not only the opposition but also against paddy field conditions but ultimately ending up losing in this well matched game.

Orrell RUFC U10s set off from rainy Orrell also on Sunday morning to the annual Manchester festival of rugby, for their very first games of their season. Upon arrival and during their 4 games, the rain stayed away providing a super display of rugby at a well organised event. The players have now transitioned into some new disciplines of the sport, including scrums, rucks and mauls.

A super test for the team, of which they stood up to the challenge exceptionally well. Lots of fun and enjoyment on the day, which included attendances of Sales Sharks professionals and super supporters. Orrell played as a team and came away with a clean sheet. With some hard running and hard hitting by all teams it was a pleasure to attend the event and a super start to Orrell’s beginning of the season.

Orrell U11s took to the short journey to local neighbour's West Park in St Helens, to eventually start their season, and put in a strong and gritty performance to take the win, with new rules and kicking now introduced to this age group. The squad worked well and quickly became familiar to the changes, with the game being played in 4, 10 minute periods Orrell took an early dominance of play, taking the first quarter 3 tries to 1, with Will, Evan and Jack all touching down; the second quarter saw the backline taking control with Joe running in a quick hat trick and Tom powering his way other through many helpless defenders.

Again, the Orrell backs took the try count with the impact players setting up continuous rucks before tries from players Will, Finn and another brace from Joe. Final 10 minutes saw Orrell slightly tire due to heavy, wet pitch, allowing the hosts to gain the final upper hand 3 tries to 2. Orrell scorers being the improved Will and the ever-present Jack.

Next week sees our Annual Dinner Dance at Houghwood Golf Club. If you haven’t got your tickets yet, you need to be quick … there are only a few tickets left. Please contact Jim or Pauline Lloyd on 07968 223809.
