Leigh U15's vs. Orrell U15's Match Report by Jennie Priest

It was a perfect sunny day for rugby as the Leigh U15's and Orrell U15's clashed in their first game of the season. The anticipation was high as the teams prepared to face off. Due to Rugby League commitments for a number of the squad, Orrell had loaned two players from Leigh, setting the stage for an intriguing contest.

From the first whistle, it was evident that both teams were eager to make their mark on the season. Leigh came out strong, showcasing their prowess in attack. Orrell looked a little slow after the summer break and took their time to get back into the Union code. Leigh's relentless pressure resulted in three scintillating tries in the first half, two of which were expertly converted. Orrell, however, showed their resilience and determination with a well-earned team try of their own, scored by one of the loaned players; although a tricky conversion in the corner was missed. As the halftime whistle blew, the score stood at 19-5 in favour of Leigh. Excellent driving tackles from Will T, Seb, and Jack E, and great defence from Ethan had prevented the score difference being any greater.

The halftime break seemed to invigorate both teams, and the second half promised even more action. Leigh continued to build on their first-half momentum, scoring an impressive four tries, two of which were converted. Their speed and precision in attack were impressive.

But Orrell was far from done and showed a second half surge under fantastic communication from Captain and Ma of the Match, Seb. They came out with renewed determination, demonstrating a much-improved performance in the second half. Their defence stood tall, and their attacking strategy paid off as they managed to cross the try line three times. Joe successfully converted one of these tries, adding valuable points to their tally. Scrum-half Thomas K unfortunately took an injury, leaving Will B to step in, and from a scrum Will scooped the ball, turned on his heel and ran for the line touching down for his first try. Shortly after, a fantastic kick down the pitch from Joe, whos kicking was on-point all game, was chased down by Will B who tapped it forward with his foot away from the Leigh defense and landed on it for his second try - great team work! The third try in the second half for Orrell came from powerhouse prop Jack E who had been brillant all game driving back Leigh players by yards, but still had the energy to cross the line for a try at the end!

When the final whistle sounded, it was Leigh U15's who emerged victorious with a final score of 43-24. The match showcased the talent and spirit of both teams - congratulations to Kilian on making his debut for Orrell and getting stuck in! Leigh's impressive first-half display and Orrell's comeback in the second half made for an exhilarating contest. The loaning of players from Leigh to Orrell added an interesting twist to the encounter, emphasizing the sportsmanship and camaraderie that rugby fosters. This thrilling match was just the beginning of what promises to be an exciting season for Orrell U15's rugby.
