Orrell U15's v Burnage U15's
The pitches at home for Orrell this week were still not up to scratch after all the rain, so St Judes ARUFC very kindly hosted us for a game against Burnage.
As soon as the game got underway it was clear Burnage were a team in the development stages, however, they never gave up and stayed resilient until the last.
Orrell were 38-7 up at half time after a superb hat trick from Seb, a great try from Paddy, and a cracker from Orrell's Captain, Mason. Three of the first half tries were deftly converted by Ethan. Burnage not to be out done managed to get over the line just before the half time whistle. Leaving the half time score at 38-7
During the game some of the Orrell players - Jack M, Will T, Ethan, Mason, and Seb, joined the Burnage team to even things up a bit, and to their credit, got stuck in and gave it their best - especially Mason - who did a fantastic job of rallying the Burnage side with his positive affirmations!
In the second half again though, the tries came in regular succession for Orrell. First from Justin after an impressive run, a hat trick for Alex this time, and another try on the scoreboard for Seb. Four of the tries in the second half were skilfully converted by Joe, and one by Alex. Burnage, though never gave up, and spurred on by Mason, they scored a good team try from a rolling maul in the last few minutes. Although the final score 71-14 looks on paper, like a white wash, both teams really enjoyed it, and the sportsmanship from both sides was exemplary. I would challenge anyone with a negative opinion of young people to watch today's game and not have their mindset changed, the lads on both sides were a credit to their club, coaches, and parents.
Man of the match this week goes to Alex, who is new to the team and has been consistently brilliant for the last few weeks. Well done Alex!
Special thanks go to Jack E's dad, Ian, who organised today's venue and food, and saved us all another trip to Manchester. Thanks Ian!
