Match Report: Leigh RUFC 7 – 24 Orrell RUFC
Well, that’s three from three in the Cup — undefeated and marching on!
Credit to the lads for showing real grit and determination, even when things didn’t quite click.
From a rugby point of view, this was very much a game of two halves — and a tough watch at times! Leigh were well-drilled, aggressive, and technically excellent up front. Their forwards worked hard to disrupt our rhythm and they caused us plenty of problems early on.
As has become a bit of a pattern this season, we started slowly. The tricky conditions didn’t help, with a few uncharacteristic errors creeping in and a first-half display that had the coaches scratching their heads.
Two moments stood out before the break:
* *George* maintained his 100% try-scoring record in an Orrell shirt ?
* And *Reece “The Giant Slayer” Hill* produced a stunning try-saving tackle on Leigh’s towering Dragos — a hit that will live long in the memory!
Leigh capitalised on some loose defending to collect a cross-field kick, and a well-taken penalty closed the half with Orrell just edging it *10–7*.
The second half was a different story. The lads seemed to wake up, remember the game plan, and started to move the ball with intent. The tries soon followed:
* *Parky* powered over for another trademark forwards’ try
* *Alex O* bagged a brace, his first coming from a superb individual jackal
* *Ralph* and *Mitch* both finished off some flowing backline play to round off the scoring
Leigh had no response as Orrell found their rhythm and closed out the game in style.
The scary part? The boys were probably only operating at about 60% of their potential. This squad is still finding its feet under new captain *Jacob B*, but the talent, spirit, and desire are all there. With full attendance at training and more game time together, this group will only get stronger.
When we really start firing — there won’t be many teams who can keep up.
