Orrell would like to thank Peter Anglesey from Sale for taking a training session on Wednesday before Orrells away game against Didsbury Toc H.
Didsbury's pitch was unfit and they switched the game to an Astro turf pitch at Manchester University facilities.
Orrell set up an attack in the opening minutes of the game, but the last pass was knocked on. Didsbury then had a chance to open the scoring with a penalty, but declined the kick at goal, and kicked for touch. Didsburywon the line out, then got a scrum 10m from the Orrell line. Orrells defence stopped Didsbury getting over the line. Then Orrell got a penalty to take play back up field..
Just over 10 minutes into the game Orrell were reduced to 14 players when Andy Stott was yellow carded for a high tackle. Orrell again had to defend close to their own try line, but Didsbury were unable to take advantage of their extra player and the score remained at 0 – 0 when Orrell were back to full strength.
15 minutes from the break Orrell set up a good attack down their right wing, but were unable to score. 5 minutes later Orrell had a chance to take the lead, when they were awarded a penalty. Craig Thomas took a penalty kick, but the ball hit the outside post and bounced back into play.
3 minutes from Half Time Orrell were again reduced to 14 players, when Matt Farrimond was Yellow Carded. Orrell again had to defend close to their own line, but stopped Didsbury's attack when they forced them into touch and the score remained at 0 – 0 at Half Time.
Early in the Second Half Didsbury set up an attack and got a scrum 10m from the Orrell line. They were then awarded a penalty. They tapped the ball and moved it across the field, but then knocked on. The Home side again attacked the Orrell line a line out 10 m out, but again Orrells defence withstood the attack and the score was still 0 – 0 when Orrell were back to full strength.
10 minutes into the half Didsbury again attacked, from a line out close to the Orrell line, but again Orrells defence held out.
Midway through the half had the chance of opening the scoring with a penalty kick, but the ball again hit the outside post and bounced out. A few minutes later Craig Thomas had to be replaced after dislocating his shoulder.
With less than 15 minutes left in the game, Orrell gave away a penalty. Didsbury kicked for touch . They win the line outand after several pick up and drives they move the ball out to score. The conversion was missed, but the Home side now had a 5 point lead.
A few minutes later Didsbury elected to attempt a penalty kick to extend their lead, but the kick went wide.
In the dying moments of the game Orrell get a penalty. They kick for touch and have a lineout 15 m from the Didsbury line. They win the lineout and move the ball across the field and Centre Tom Halsall touches down to level the scores. The kicking duties were taken over by Andy Cannon. His conversion kick went over the bar to give Orrell the lead 5 – 7 and immediately the referee blow his whistle for the end of the game.
Next Saturday Orrell are at Home to Marple. Kick Off 2.30pm
