Torrential rain and wind couldn’t prevent Orrell’s vs Garstang game from going ahead.

Forced changes in the front row and the return of Andy Kelly, Orrell took the field against a buoyant expectant Garstang side.

With the game under way Garstang quickly took control of the scrums and with a bigger pack became dominant in the first 20 minutes. Garstang had lots of procession but strong defence by Orrell kept the score line 0-0.

The second quarter of the 1st half belonged to the Orrell forwards. Dominant in the line-out and beginning to hold the heavy advances from the Garstang forwards. Orrell backs passed the ball through the hands allowing Matty Johnson to score in the corner. The referee 10 yards behind play adjudged the ball to have gone forward and the try was disallowed to the dismay of the crowd.

Orrell dominated the second half and on 42’ an excellent jinking run by MoM Kieran Herbert broke the deadlock and with the conversion kicked score moved on 7-0. Orrell class started to show with slick passing from the backs and penetrating runs from Orrell’s back row.

Both teams stretched each other’s defence and on 62' Garstang were awarded a penalty 7-3. Orrell continued to push forward and on 65' Penalty James Ratcliffe converted a penalty after good work again from the backs 10-3.

Orrell closed out the game on 77’ when substitute Craig Thomas took a flat pass from Tom Halsall and with a maze run completed the score FT 15-3. The final whistle blown a hard fought game with Orrell worthy winners in the end.
