Orrell v Winnington Park

Orrell v Winnington Park

Graham Winstanley4 Mar 2013 - 09:28

John Cassidy's first try for the First Team. Orrell fight back to gain a bonus point.

This was Orrell's first game at Home since the beginning of January. Winnington Park ran the ball from the start of the game and Orrell were behind within a few minutes of the kick off from a penalty. The visitors continued to run the ball and could have gone further ahead from two more penalties, but both attempts were missed.
Against the run of play Orrell scored the first try of the game, when Winnington Park moved the ball across their back line only for Chris Owen to intercept the ball just outside his own 22 meter line, evading 2 defenders he set off down the touch line then score behind the posts. He then converted his own try.
Midway through the half Orrell went further ahead when Chris Owen converted a penalty. With just under 10 minutes left in the half a yellow card reduced Orrell to 14 players and from the ensuing penalty Winnington Park scored an unconverted try to make the score Orrell 10 Winnington Park 8 at half time.
Just after the restart, with Orrell still down to 14 men, a mistake by the Home side allowed their opponents to pick up a loose ball and score a converted try between the posts, to take then into the lead again. Minutes after Orrell were restored to 15 men they were back down to 14 when another Orrell player was yellow carded. The visitors took advantage of their extra man to extend their lead with 2 converted tries to make the score Orrell 10 Winnington Park 29.
Orrell were to spend 30 minutes of this game with only 14 players when again a few minutes after being restored to full strength, a third Orrell player was yellow carded. This time the visitor were unable to take advantage of their extra player. Just before Orrell were restored to full strength, one of the opposition was yellow carded.
Orrell were able to take advantage of the extra player and from a line out drove towards the visitors try line. Prop John Cassidy peeled off the back of the maul to score his first try for the senior side. The try was converted from near the touch line.
Replacements Carlton Bramwell and Hugh Bloor were both have good games and in stoppage time it was Hugh Bloor who charged over the line to score Orrell's 3rd try, which was converted by Chris Owen to make the final score Orrell 24 Winnington Park 29 to give the Home side a bonus point.
Next Saturday Orrell are again at Home at St John Rigby College against Ruskin Park. Kick Off 2.30. The 2nd team are away against Fylde 3rd. Kick Off 3pm.
