Orrell v De La Salle (Salford)

Early on in the game, Orrell took advantage of a miss kick by the visitors to get possession of the ball and a good kick, from just inside his own half, by Fly Half Terry Leaford using the strong wind, took play up to De La Salle's try line and after a number of pick up and drives, the ball was moved back out to Terry to touch down for the opening try of the game, which was converted by Craig Thomas.
With just 10 minutes play a good break up the middle of the field from halfway by second row Andy Kelly enabled Max Huxley to race over the line for his second try. The conversion was missed - making the score Orrell 12 – de La Salle 0.
Midway through the half De La Salle were reduced to 14 players after a yellow card.
From a line out close to the halfway line Orrell moved the ball quickly along the backs to Left Winger Dylan Hartley. who outpaced the visitor defence to score in the corner for Orrell's 3rd try, giving Orrell a 17 points lead.
However, when De La Salle restart the game, they immediately got possession of ball and from a penalty, had a line out close to the Orrell try line, and after a number of pick up and drives they score an unconverted try. Orrell 17 De La Salle 5.
With 15 minutes left in the half a good clearance kick by Dylan Hartley took play into the visitors’ half. Orrell got possession of the ball and a cross kick by Craig Thomas allowed Terry Leaford to run onto the ball to score Orrell's 4th try for a bonus point. Craig converted the try, extending Orrell's lead to 19 points.
Unfortunately, the restart was a carbon copy of the last De La Salle restart with them getting back possession of the ball and from a penalty, a line out inside Orrell's 22 and they then drove over for their 2nd unconverted try, making the score 24 – 10 at the break.
5 minutes after the restart a good break by the visitors, eventually resulted in them attacking the Orrell try line, and after several pick up and drives, they touched down for their 3rd try, which they converted making the score 24 – 17. Just under 10 minutes later, De La Salle narrowed Orrell's lead to just 4 points when they kicked a penalty.
Midway through the half, from a scrum the visitor quickly moved the ball across the field for their 4th try and a bonus point. The try was converted to give De La Salle the lead for the first time in the game Orrell 24 De La Salle 27.
De La Salle were again reduced to 14 players with 15 minutes left in the game when another of their players was Yellow carded. From the penalty Craig took a quick tap of the ball and raced through to score Orrell's 5th try, which he converted, giving Orrell back the lead 31 – 27.
With just over 10 minutes left in the match Craig Thomas raced after a clearance kick out of Orrell's own 22. which bounced up for him to catch and run over half the length of the field to score Orrell's 6th try and his second. The conversion was missed leaving the score Orrell 36 – De La Salle 27.
De La Salle were back to full strength with just under 5 minutes to play when they scored their 5th try, which they converted to narrow Orrell's lead to just 2 points. 36 – 34. In the last minute of the game Orrell failed to clear a kick by the visitors which resulted in De La Salle having the put in at a scrum 22 meters from the Orrell try line, but as Orrell desperately defended the visitors attack they gave away a penalty which De La Salle converted. Immediately the referee blows his whistle to end the game giving De La Salle the win by one point. Orrell 36 - De La Salle 37.
Orrell got 2 bonus points from the game. One for scoring 4 try and the other for losing by less than 7 points.
