2nd game 2nd win

Ellesmere Port RUFC kindly hosted Orrell on a glorious Saturday morning in Cheshire. The pitch and facilities were in perfect condition, and suited our running style from the off.
Playing the wide-expansive style that has become trademark to Orrell, the half back pairing of Terry and Mitchell ensured that our pacy outside backs had the chance to shine. First was Chris Witter finishing off some great backs play with a typical dash down the wing rounding the opposition winger and FB to touch down under the sticks. Evan converted.
Owen Birch took advantage of a loose pass from the Ellesmere Port and sniffed out a fantastic interception and cruised home from 40m. Evan converted. Next up was a superb individual effort from Umyla who danced 70m through the hosts defence, with a superb combination of power, balance and speed. Evan converted.
Onto the pitch came debutant Sam Cookson, who with his first touch of the ball blazed around the Ellesmere Port back line to score under the posts. Sensational try! Owen converted.
The game then turned into an arm wrestle between the two forward packs, neither backing down and the flow of tries slowed. To their credit, and the mark of a good team, Ellesmere Port woke up and scored two unconverted tries. Orrell were struggling to gain meters and struggled to get over the gain line, running side wards often trying to sniff out gaps.
After what seemed like and age, the forwards started running straight and hard and it paid off, with Taylor and the "Two Jacks" (Moss and Bibby) taking the ball in and making hard yards.
Jack Bibby finished two excellent tries, showing that if you run hard and strong at a gap you will score! Evan converted both. Last try of the day went to Taylor who powered over under the sticks to cap a fine display both in attack and defence. Evan converted.
In our first true competitive game at u14's, I truly don't believe that we moved out of third gear, and a lot more is to come from this talented team. We must work on supporting the runner and deciding on when to unleash the backs, or to keep it tight in the forwards. It will come, I have faith in each of the players.
Joint man of the match went to Jack Bibby for his two tries, doing the basics right and always being the first at the breakdown. And to Jack Moss who's running around the fringes were almost unstoppable at times. Special mention to Taylor Flude who pushed the "Two Jacks" close and caused problems all day with ball in hand.
Tries - Bibby 2, Hanley 2, Flude, Witter, Birch, Cookson
Conversion - Armstrong 6/6, Birch 2/2
