Burnley travelled to Orrell this week and Orrell were rewarded with a 35-5 score line By Zak Manir-Jolley

Today was a good day for rugby. Orrell played well from the beginning and were consistent right to the end. Tackling, rucking, passing and overall play was outstanding from every single Orrell player.

From the start, Henry and Reece worked hard in scrum-half and stand-off, effortlessly controlling play which opened up Orrell’s first opportunity for a stunning try from Alexander O. Match momentum continued with Orrell maintaining majority possession, strong passing play from Alexander G resulted in another great try, this time from Lucas.

Burnley stuck to their task and made some breakthroughs in the first half, though Orrell continued to apply pressure resulting in a try line ‘knock-on.’ Cheers of relief from Orrell players meant the team sustained their steady lead at the half-time whistle of 3 tries to nil.

Orrell were feeling confident but didn’t want to lose concentration and a half-time team talk from the coaches helped to keep the focus going into the second half. Team Orrell walked onto the pitch respecting what the Burnley side was capable of but also knowing that today they were on a winning streak.

A few minutes into the second half Johnny did a wonderful tackle gaining Orrell metres. Orrell went on to win a scrum, Jack received the ball, sprinted out to the right wing, and as he was tackled his ‘quick thinking’ meant he off-loaded the ball to Zak. Zak flew down the wing and stepped in from the touch-line to score the 6th try for Orrell.

Orrell weren’t done yet. Harvey burst through Burnley's defence to secure Orrell’s 7th try. The whole team beamed in delight as Harvey did a belly slide! Still, Burnley kept their belief, and within minutes of the final whistle scored their first try. But before you knew it the final whistle sounded and it was the end of the match. Orrell left the pitch with theirs heads held high knowing every single player had given it their all.

In the team talk Harvey deservedly won ‘Man of the Match’ because of his tackling, rucking, finishing and of course, his magnificent belly slide!

It was another great team day with Orrell Under 13’s.
