Weekly Roundup | Cup Finalists, Big Wins & A Big Weekend Ahead for Orrell RUFC
U16s are through to the Lancashire Cup Final
The standout headline from last weekend is a huge one for the club — our U16s are through to the Lancashire Cup Final after a superb semi-final win away at Rochdale.
To reach a county final is a fantastic achievement in itself, but to do it as defending champions makes it even more special. This group have worked incredibly hard all season, showing commitment, character and real togetherness — and they now have the chance to defend their title on the biggest stage.
Final details:
Venue: Vale of Lune RFC
Date: Sunday 3rd May 2026
Opposition: Warrington RUFC
This is a brilliant moment for the players, coaches, families and everyone involved with the squad — and one the whole club can be proud of.

Looking ahead, the squad will have a couple of more games before Finals Day on 3rd May, and then round off their campaign at the 7s tournament on 16th May.

1XV dig deep for a dramatic away win
Our 1XV also gave us a huge result last weekend, producing a thrilling 33–35 win away at Burnley in dramatic style.
A last-minute try and touchline conversion sealed a brilliant victory on the road, capping off a performance full of heart, character and composure under pressure.
It was the kind of result that says a lot about this group — determination, resilience and belief right to the final whistle — and it keeps Orrell firmly in the mix at the top end of the table as we head into another huge fixture this weekend.

U10s shine at Sefton
Our U10s enjoyed a fantastic day out away at Sefton on Saturday, with plenty of smiles, great rugby and another brilliant example of the progress being made across the Mini section.
A special mention goes to Eli, who was named Player of the Match — a proud moment and thoroughly deserved.
The team continue to show great enthusiasm, confidence and improvement every week, and it’s fantastic to see that development shining through on matchdays.
A full photo album from the day is now available on our website — please do take a look, and don’t forget to like and share to help us celebrate another great day for our young black and ambers.

U14s continue to put the work in
While there was no fixture for our U14s, it was still a very positive and productive weekend, with another strong training session and continued commitment from the squad.
As always, it’s great to see the players continuing to put the work in, even without a game, and maintaining standards as the season moves towards its final stages.
A huge thank you as well to U10s coach Neil Bradley for joining the session and sharing his time, support and experience — a great example of the one-club spirit that runs throughout Orrell RUFC.

Wednesday night training
Wednesday night training is back on as normal this week and we’re delighted to be back on the pitch at St John Rigby after last week’s break due to a college event. Great to have everyone back under the lights as preparations continue for another big weekend in black and amber.

Easter break ahead… but the work doesn’t stop
As we approach the Easter break, many of our Mini & Junior teams will be looking forward to a short pause after another busy and enjoyable spell of rugby.
That said, preparations for next season never really stop, and many of our squads will continue to train and stay active throughout the summer — keeping standards high, building skills and making sure they are ready to go again when the new campaign comes around.
While some of our Mini & Junior fixtures pause over Easter, our Open Age squads continue their season right through to the end of April, with plenty still to play for in the weeks ahead. Our 1XV will travel to Oldham RUFC on 11th April and our last game of the season – which will be a home game – will be against Ashton under Lyne.
That ongoing commitment from players, coaches and families right across the club is a huge part of what keeps Orrell RUFC moving forward.
