Black & Amber, Safe Together: Safeguarding, welfare and support information for players, parents and volunteers 1 of 13

1. Safe Rugby at Orrell

Safe Rugby at Orrell

Looking after our players, supporting our families, and keeping rugby positive for everyone.

At Orrell RUFC, we believe rugby should be a place where everyone feels safe, welcome and supported.

Safeguarding isn’t just about policies and forms — it’s about creating the right environment so that children, young people and adults can enjoy rugby, build confidence, make friends and be part of our Black & Amber community.

This section brings together all the information, guidance and documents that help us do that.

What You’ll Find Here

Whether you’re a player, parent, coach or volunteer, you’ll find resources to help you understand:

  • How we keep players safe
  • The standards we expect from everyone involved in the club
  • What to do if you have a concern or need support
  • Who you can talk to
  • The policies and guidance we follow

Some documents are provided by the RFU (our governing body), and others are created by Orrell RUFC to support our own teams and volunteers.

You don’t need to read everything — but it’s here whenever you need it.

Our Approach

We aim to create a club environment that is:

  • Safe and respectful
  • Inclusive and welcoming
  • Positive and supportive
  • Focused on enjoyment and development
  • Built on trust and teamwork

Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility, and together we help protect what makes our club special.

If You’re Worried About Something

If something doesn’t feel right, or you’re concerned about the wellbeing of a player or member of the club, please speak to:

  • Your coach or team manager
  • A Team Safeguarding Lead
  • The Club Safeguarding Officer

You can also use the referral form available in this section.

Concerns will always be taken seriously.

Our Commitment

All coaches and relevant volunteers at Orrell RUFC are appropriately recruited, DBS checked where required, and supported with safeguarding training in line with RFU requirements.

We follow RFU safeguarding policies and best practice guidance to help ensure rugby remains safe and enjoyable for everyone.

Black & Amber, Safe Together

Looking after each other is part of being a team.
